A notification from the Assistant Commissioner, Greater Brisbane Region
It is with great sadness that I advise of the loss of Firefighter Brett Stewart, who passed away on 9 June 2026.
Brett commenced his firefighting career on 7 February 2005 serving the south side of Brisbane predominantly at Wynnum and Wishart Fire and Rescue Stations. Brett was on leave at the time of his passing, serving with honour for over 21 years.
Brett was awarded the Diligent and Ethical Services Medal (DESM) in 2016 and the National Medal in 2020. Brett was recently nominated for the DESM First Clasp and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Response Medal with COVID-19 clasp, and these will be awarded posthumously once received.
Brett’s funeral service will be held as follows

Brett’s wife, Cath, welcomes all those that knew Brett to join in remembering him at a reception that will follow the service, at Holland Park Hotel, 945 Logan Road, Holland Park from 1:00pm.
